Kent Foreman is a Father to a remarkable Daughter, for whom his first book: 'A Labor of Love' was written - even though she won’t read it, yet. When he is not writing, he is studying languages, practicing music, and training in assorted martial arts.


This non-fiction book is a conceptual dictionary, discussing ideas in an easily understood manner. Written as a guidebook to assist his own daughter as she navigates the bumpy road of adulthood; the tone of the book speaks to anyone trying to find their way in this society. It has wonderful advice on the many different challenges our children face the current school system doesn’t prepare them for.


It is packed full of positive reinforcement for every audience. Although aimed at young adults taking that final step into the future, I noticed it would also be a good resource for authors struggling with character development - myself included.


The author has an intriguing viewpoint about controlling yourself to influence your surroundings. I believe this book is a wonderful resource to anyone wishing to find their true selves, no matter your age. 


A line from the section on publicity that really struck me was: “The distinction between private and public lives and the connection with an increasing use of social media has lasting consequences for both the individuals and institutions that comprise our communities.”


I love the author’s take on the concepts in this book. I have bought it, and I plan to make it a graduation present this year.
